If you’ve never heard of me, the obvious question is why should you listen to me?

My copywriting story starts back in 2009 after I gave up a 25 year career I hated.

I was an optician of all things… couldn’t stand it!

So one day decided to jack it all in and do something different.

Fortunately I’d already dabbled in online marketing in my spare time (although never really got anywhere) so it seemed like the perfect opportunity – along with a leap of faith and a pretty hefty investment – to get myself acquainted with one of the top direct-response marketers here in the UK.

It turns out, I was pretty good at writing sales copy and to cut a long story short, I ended up ghost-writing a sales letter for him a few years later.

That first effort was a huge success and led directly to me being asked to write more sales letters, a couple of which brought in revenue of well over £2,000,000 a piece (roughly $2,500,000)!

Needless to say, I did pretty well out of them and after that, through collaboration and contacts, my career as a copywriter took off.

I must be doing something right…

Here we are some 14 years later, and having now worked with other successful direct-mail marketers in the UK, so far, collectively, the campaigns I’ve written have brought in sales of well over £20 million pounds (roughly $24 million dollars), so I know what works.

The thing is, there are different kinds of copywriting for different types of product or service (and how they’re delivered).

Building a brand for example might require a different approach than a direct-mail piece where you need to make the sale quickly through a single mailshot.

But there are fundamental ‘rules’ that apply to them all.

By making sure your words flow smoothly with a hyper-conversational tone and emotionally driven messaging, you can create high-impact copy that taps right into people’s greed glands (don’t worry, it’s nothing sinister or nasty, it’s just a metaphor for what I call it when someone wants something like, yesterday)!
